Fundamentals of Vedic Science – The Study of Vedanta

Exploring the Depths of Vedic Science and Vedanta through Advanced Study the Applied Vedic Science – Advanced (Vedanta) (SAN8110) course offers students a deeper dive into the fascinating world of Vedic philosophy. Upon completion of the Applied Vedic Science – Basic (Vedanta) course, students will delve into the ontological frameworks of three prominent schools of Vedanta – Advaita, Visistadvaita, and Dvaita – through the study of their foundational texts. 

This course is designed for those enrolled in the Master Program in Sanskrit or Masters’ Certificate in Sanskrit at MIT-SVS, with a requirement of having completed the previous MA Sanskrit course. Instruction is provided in Sanskrit, making this an elective option for those pursuing the MA in Sanskrit. 

Students who take this course will be able to: 

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the various ontological schemas presented by the different schools of Vedanta, all rooted in the Vedic tradition 

  • Observe the differences in language usage adopted by each school of Vedanta in presenting their doctrines. 

Offered in the spring of 2023, this elective course is a valuable opportunity for those looking to expand their knowledge of Vedic Science and Vedanta through advanced study. Whether exploring the ontological frameworks of different schools of Vedanta or examining the language usage adopted by each, students will leave this course with a deeper appreciation for the rich and intriguing nature of the Vedas.
